“Booms and Busts” – Week 4

Let’s take a look at our “Booms and Busts” for the fourth week. But before we do that, just want to issue an apology to my man, T.Y. Hilton. I doubted you, and for that I apologize.

Ok, let’s get into it.

Booms

Jay Ajayi (RB-MIA) – After putting up a stinker against the Jets last week, Ajayi is going to bounce back in a big way this week. Returning to London where he spent time as a youth, Ajayi will have many friends and family in the stands rooting him on. The extra adrenaline paired with an awful Saints defense makes for a very nice homecoming for Ajayi.

Joe Mixon (RB-CIN) – Mixon seems to finally be the top back in Cincinnati and gets a nice matchup against the Browns this week. Look for him to have a break out game.

Evan Engram (TE-NYG) – Engram has clearly developed a rapport with quarterback Eli Manning, and faces a Buccaneers defense that is banged up quite a bit this week. He should continue to build upon his flourishing relationship with the 2x Super Bowl MVP.

Busts

Lamar Miller (RB-HOU) – Slowly becoming the second favorite back in Houston, game script will not help get Miller back in the loop.

Ben Roethlisberger (QB-PIT) – Going on the road is not Big Ben’s forte, and the Ravens defense has been decent this year (other than this). Look for his road woes to continue against Pittsburgh’s division rival.

Amari Cooper (WR-OAK) – Looking totally out of sync with quarterback Derek Carr, going on the road to Denver should prove to be a tough matchup for Cooper.

“Booms and Busts” – Week 3

Let’s take a look at our “Booms and Busts” for the third week:

Booms

DeVante Parker (WR-MIA) – This is it folks, the week DeVante Parker finally breaks out! We’ve been waiting for it for quite some time, and the New York Jets’ leaky secondary is the perfect matchup for the former Louisville Cardinal to spread his wings.

Rashard Higgins (WR-CLE) – A top waiver wire pickup for the week, Higgins gets a prime matchup against the Indianapolis Colts this week. Look for DeShone Kizer to feed his new favorite target early and often this game.

Christian McCaffrey (RB-CAR) – Not quite a “boom” last week, now he faces a New Orleans defense that makes every offense look amazing. The Carolina Panthers will right the ship this week, and McCaffrey will be a big reason why.

Busts

Marcus Mariota (QB-TEN) – Regardless of his slow start, Mariota is going to have the season we all thought he would. However, that will have to wait a week. The Titans host a Seattle Seahawks team that has allowed only 13 points per game so far this year.

Dez Bryant (WR-DAL) – Going up against Patrick Peterson? No thanks. Peterson is one of the only CBs in the league that is a physical match for Bryant. Always a touchdown threat, don’t expect Bryant to compile many yards this week.

The entire Indianapolis Colts offense – See last week.

Survivor Pick Week 1

Not a ton of great Survivor options this week. The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to be the popular pick, as they are playing the Cleveland Browns. However, PIT also has a lot of future value, so we’re going to hold off on them.

Not exactly a loaded team coming into 2017, however, the Buffalo Bills kick the season off by taking on the New York Jets in Orchard Park. The Bills lost Sammy Watkins this offseason, but still have Tyrod Taylor and LeSean McCoy to rely on. The Bills have zero future value, and picking against the Jets tends to be a good strategy. It could be a close one, but the Bills pull this one off Week 1.

It’s been a long time…

We shouldn’t have left you, without a dope beat blog post to step to.

Roughly 8 months after our last post, we’ve returned for the 2017 Fantasy Football season. Wow, it feels great to be back.

I'm Back Baby

This year, DQB will continue to tackle (pun intended) the top issues facing Fantasy Football: who to sit, who to start, who to drop, and who to add in order to make sure you bring home the gold.

Let’s get to it!

Fantasy Football Mock Redraft Rankings

With the completion of Week 4, we are officially one quarter of the way through the 2016 NFL season. Though it is still early to make a definitive judgement on the season, we have gotten to see a nice sample size of how it may pan out. Per usual, we’ve been surprised by particular players and teams, and others have lived up to expectation (for better or worse). For that reason, Desktop Quarterback has completed what we’ll call “mock redraft rankings.” Taking in to account how players have done thus far, while still considering their future potential to perform, our quarter-season rankings are as follows:

1 – Antonio Brown (WR-PIT)
2 – Julio Jones (WR-ATL)
3 – David Johnson (RB-ARI)
4 – Ezekiel Elliott (RB-DAL)
5 – A.J. Green (WR-CIN)
6 – LeVeon Bell (RB-PIT)
7 – Odell Beckham, Jr. (WR-NYG)
8 – LeSean McCoy (RB-BUF)
9 – Todd Gurley (RB-LA)
10 – Kelvin Benjamin (WR-CAR)
11 – DeAndre Hopkins (WR-HOU)
12- Jordy Nelson (WR-GB)
13 – Melvin Gordon (RB-SD)
14 – Mike Evans (WR-TB)
15 – DeMarco Murray (RB-TEN)
16 – C.J. Anderson (RB-DEN)
17 – Jordan Reed (TE-WAS)
18 – Mark Ingram (RB-NO)
19 – Rob Gronkowski (TE-NE)
20 – Marvin Jones (WR-DET)

Players of note that have leaped into the conversation are DeMarco Murray, Melvin Gordon, and Marvin Jones, Jr. – all playing very well right now, and not showing any signs of letting up.

On the other hand, those that have been pretty disappointing thus far are Odell Beckham, Jr. and Todd Gurley. We’re not counting them out yet, and think they will certainly turn it around, as they are both extremely talents. However, they were certainly not worth top 5 status right now.

Welcome to the huddle

Thanks for stopping by Desktop Quarterback! We’ll use this platform to discuss important matters such as, “who should I start in my FLEX spot in fantasy football this week?” or “is Eli Manning the best quarterback of all time?”

Posts will range from weekly player rankings to who we’re picking in Survivor to a mailbag, where readers can submit questions via e-mail (desktopquarterback@gmail.com) or via Twitter (@desktopqb). We may even throw in a pop culture post every now and then, just for laughs (think “Best Joe Pesci quotes” or “Top 5 characters on ‘The Wire'”).

Be sure to check back and see what we’re cooking up. Enjoy.
